The quality of a sight (gauge) glass depends mainly on the chemical composition and mechanical strength of the glass material. Analyses and acid/alkali tests are constantly ensuring a high glass-quality. The mechanical strength is reached by thermal prestressing. Borosilicate glass, thermally prestressed, optically tested, properties as defined in DIN and OENORM standards. Extract from this standard: For safety reasons, soda-lime based glasses may not be used.

We supply a wide range of Tubular Gauge Glasses types for liquid level applications in industrial steam boilers. These glasses are manufactured from low expansion borosilicate glass which is especially noted for its high chemical and corrosion resistance and its clarity and mechanical strength. DGW also imports Gauge Glass Tubing’ in a wide range of diameters and wall thicknesses in Borosilicate material which is highly resistant to water, neutral and acidic solutions, concentrated acids, and organic solutions. For smaller diameters (up to 38mm or 1.1/2″) the composition has been developed specifically to cater to the requirements of gauge glasses used in high-pressure steam boilers, for both temperature and chemical resistance. Red striped glass tubes are available for use in low-pressure level gauges’ Larger diameters are used as sight flow indicators in pipelines, chemical process plants, and other process equipment. Glass rods in borosilicate and soda glass rods and tubing are available for special applications.
